Investigation of Carboxymethyl Cellulose and Barite Additives on the Corrosion Characteristics of Water-Based Drilling Mud

Drilling fluids can be considered complex liquids containing several desired materials. These materials (small additives) are specialty products that serve a specific need, such as controlling the rheological properties of drilling fluid and reducing corrosion for operational both oil gas wells. Additives used to resist called inhibitors. Previous research has shown polymers Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) have high characteristics inhabitation in an aggressive environment. In this study, effect adding two samples additives, CMC Barite, on carbon steel Iraqi bentonite water base mud solution been evaluated using weight loss technique. The study focuses determining comparing these additives. All experiments were carried out static flow at room temperature. Results show works good inhibitor when added bentonite/barite mud. calculated rates 0.95mpy, 0.75mpy, 0.53mpy, 0.49mpy found mud, bentonite/CMC bentonite/CMC/barite respectively. This would result efficiency about 50%.
